Urban Road Networks: Benefits of a Public-Private Partnership Approach

Following publication of the IRF paper Public-Private Partnerships - Beyond the Financing Aspects in 2008, the IRF working group on PPP addressed the issue of partnerships for Urban Roads. The working group members identified a number of modern case studies that naturally fit into IRF's definition of PPPs, and also highlight the specifics of urban PPPs in today’s context; as well as their interaction with broader transportation issues as with social, economic, environmental and political parameters. These case studies are briefly presented, classified and discussed in this paper. Read more.

IRF India Chapter

The activities of IRF in India is not new. Three Regional Conferences were organized in India successfully since 2006 onwards on some of the most topical subjects like "Business & Environment for Future Road Development in India", "Road Safety-Design", "Construction and Operations of Roads", "Mobility and Safety in Road Transport" and "5th Regional Conference on Road Safety" (to be held in November 2010).

India has taken up the giant road development programme after 50 years, and country wide enhanced mobility has given rise to a huge road safety problem with the dubious distinction of highest road fatalities per year in the world.
