IRF Statutes

The International Road Federation (IRF) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to encourage and promote development and maintenance of better and safer roads and road networks worldwide. Founded in 1948, it operated for many years as two separate but related and cooperating entities based respectively in Geneva, Switzerland and Washington D.C., U.S.A. In 1998, IRF-Geneva and IRF-Washington joined together to operate as a single unified worldwide organization.

New statutes setting forth the detailed procedures to be followed in administering the affairs of the IRF were approved by the membership when unification first went into effect. These statutes continue to serve the World Executive Board of the IRF as a reference from time to time.* However, because the statutes cover so many eventualities that are beyond the everyday functioning of the organization, it was felt that an abbreviated summary of key principles governing the operation of the IRF would be more generally useful for the membership.
