In this issue of the newsletter we have included reports from several of our important IRF Ambassadors, representing IRF GPC in their own country.

The IRF Ambassador are formally responsible to act as a link at national level between members, the Road Infrastructure Industry and the IRF GPC Executive Committee and Chairman.

Apart from the Ambassadors reports, it is our pleasure to announce that the IRF Seminar in Road Safety and Public / Private Partnership, held in Cairo, was a great success. We have gathered together about 60 high-level international industry representatives, interested in learning about the difficulties and isseus facing the road sector today. The proceedings CD will be available to order in the next few weeks.

In the next few weeks, IRF will be sending a delegation to the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Moscow, and will be participating in a plenary session to encourage collaboration between relevant entities in implementing safer and more sustainable transportation and infrastructure.

Highly successful IRF seminar in Cairo, addressing Road Safety and Public/Private Partnership

Road infrastructure representatives from all over the world gathered in Cairo on 12-13 October 2009 for a major Road Safety and Public/Private Partnership (PPP) Seminar organised by the International Road Federation (IRF).

The seminar, which was fully subscribed, attracted some 60 high-level international industry representatives interested in learning about the challenges facing the road sector today.

IRF Geneva takes part in the 4th Regional Conference on Accident Prevention

On the 23rd of September 2009, IRF India Chapter jointly with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, launched a National Campaign for the Reduction of Road Fatalities with a target of reducing road deaths by 50% in three years. Following the launch, the 4th Regional Conference on Accident Prevention: Road Safety Measures, was organized in New Delhi with the aims to offer a forum for meaningful interaction amongst the various stakeholders of the region.

TEN-T Days: EU tightens up relationship with African countries

Organised in Naples on 21-22 October by the European Commission (EC), the Italian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Swedish Presidency of the European Union, the TEN-T Days 2009 notably aimed at stimulating reflection on future policy framework and at exploring ways to work more closely with African countries. The IRF was represented by Susanna Zammataro, Deputy Director General of the Geneva Programme Centre.

In my capacity as IRF Ambassador, my principal activities have been with respect to the following:
1. Setting up of the IRF India Chapter in New Delhi.
2. Attending the General Assembly and Board of Directors Meeting on Thursday, 23rd April 2009 on behalf of IRF's Vice-Chairman, Mr. Kiran Kapila; and attending the Working Group Meeting on Road Safety on 24th April 2009 in Paris.

Emerging mega-road development business opportunities in Nigeria - Report by Mr. Chude Ojugbana, IRF Ambassador in Nigeria

Nigeria is an oil rich nation and the most populous country in Africa, with some 150 million inhabitants. Despite its rating as the 5th largest oil producing nation in the world, the country is still rated very low in terms of infrastructural development, especially with respect to transport related issues.

Report by Mr. Valentin Stoica, IRF Ambassador in Romania

Since my appointment in 2008, I have striven to give the position of IRF Ambassador to Romania more and more visibility within the roads infrastructure industry. The main objectives of my activity have been to promote IRF among potential partners that may be willing to join our organisation; emphasising the benefits brought to a company or institution through such membership; and facilitating communication between members of IRF in Romania and the Secretariat in Geneva.
