IRF to set up new body addressing Road Finance & Economics

IRF is inviting you to get actively involved in a new committee addressing the wider theme of Road Finance an Economics.

The current IRF working group on Public-private partnerships has been in place since 2006 and has actively promoted the PPP-concept at numerous occasions and with a dedicated publication. Current working group chairman Michel Démarre of FNTP, France, has announced his resignation for the end of the year 2010. IRF feels the time is right for a re-orientation of the group and would like to solicit you as IRF member on this topic.

Changer, the IRF Greenhouse gas Calculator, presented to the European Commission

Sibylle Rupprecht and Susanna Zammataro were invited by the European Commission to present Changer, the IRF Greenhouse gas Calculator. The presentation met with a lot of interest and discussions exploring opportunities to contribute with Changer in the definition of a methodology for the internalisation of external transport costs, especially in view of the Marco Polo project.

ITS Policy Committee fosters relationships in Brussels

Sibylle Rupprecht and Susanna Zammataro met with Herman Meyer, the Chief Executive Officer of Ertico. It was a pleasure to introduce the IRF and especially the ITS Policy Committee to Mr. Meyer. He in return made a detailed presentation about Ertico and its work. In particular, he pointed out the work done by Ertico regarding the integration of the ITS theme into Road Safety Audit courses. This positive meeting will help both parties to work closer together on identified issues of common interest.

IRF Geneva Chairman visits China

On 15 August, the Chairman of IRF Geneva, Mr. K. K. Kapila, met in Beijing with Mr. Li Juchang, President of the China Highway & Transportation Society (CHTS), an IRF member. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Liu Wenjie, Secretary General of CHTS, Mr. Ju Rongyun, Deputy Secretary General of CHTS, Mr. Lin Sheng, Director of the Consulting Department, Ms. Wang Danqing, Director of the International Department, and Ms. Nina Guan, Assistant Director of the International Department.

IRF Prominently Represented at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum

From 30th May to 2nd June, Bill Vincent attended the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Rio de Janeiro on behalf of IRF. Specifically, he was invited to participate in Round Table 4, which was designed to explore how Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can improve urban congestion and mobility.
