Report by Mr Wenjie Liu, IRF Ambassador in China
It's a great pleasure for me to accept responsibility as IRF Ambassador for China. I undertake to do my utmost to foster IRF aims and activities in China, and promote the organisation's influence with a view to improving the development of the Chinese highway industry.
After being appointed Ambassador, I first studied the regulations of IRF, in order to ensure a thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities of IRF.
At many Chinese highway conventions recently, I have introduced IRF's main events and activities in order to enhance awareness among the Chinese road industry. I also arranged for the official websites of the China Highway & Transportation Society, www.chts.cn and www.Chinahighway.com, to publicise IRF more prominently.
As commissioned by IRF, I attended the "4th China Asphalt Summit", held on 22nd October in Shanghai, and delivered a presentation entitled "Development of China Highways and Main Recent Events of IRF", which was well-received and warmly appreciated by the attendees.
Presently, we are preparing for the IRF workshop that will be held in Tanzania this month. The Secretary-General of a number of provincial Highway and Transportation Societies will accompany me to this meeting, and we will aim to introduce the current situation with respect to Chinese highways and rural roads.
We are also preparing to attend the 16th IRF World Road Meeting, which will be held next year in Lisbon. We plan to invite several leading figures and renowned experts from the Chinese road industry to attend this important international gathering.
We will also endeavour to translate core information on IRF and introduce this more widely to Chinese readers through magazines, websites and other media.
