Disaster Relief

Ministers and senior road officials from 15 countries met at the UN offices in Bangkok to discuss the recovery of infrastructure following disasters. A resolution requesting the IRF to help coordinate international technical assistance was unanimously adopted, and ministers asked for this to be adopted at a United Nations level. We are currently in the process of setting up an IRF pool of experts for emergency intervention in case of natural disasters. These experts are mainly engineering consultancy companies with experience in emergency intervention who are willing to send their experts within 24 hours to a disaster-stricken region to assess the damages to the key access roads, prioritise and plan repair works.
