IRF Environment Committee - IRF | International Road Federation - Better Roads, Better World

IRF Environment Committee

Finding the right balance between commitment to reduce the environmental impacts of the road sector on the one hand, and economic development, trade and mobility imperatives on the other, requires a comprehensive and innovative mix of policy, fiscal and regulatory measures, technology choices and a wider strategic approach that better reflects the full complexity and interdependence of the issues that need to be addressed.

Through its Environment & Climate Change Committee, IRF take on the challenge to raise awareness and provide guidance on this matter and to strongly advocate for environmentally sustainable roads; whether to be achieved through better land-use planning, development of green rating systems, innovative products or processes, comprehensive and coherent transport policies, ITS, monitoring of environmental impacts, infrastructure resilience to climate change or any other means.

The mission of the Environment & Climate Change Committee is:

"To advocate for environmentally sustainable road development, maintenance and operation, by raising awareness, providing policy guidance and the exchange of knowledge and good practice."
