We are pleased to send you the July edition of the IRF newsletter. June was a busy month and we have much to report about what has been done and what will be happening in the coming months:
  • We launched the IRF Young Professionals Program (IRF-YP) on June 22, 2015 in Birmingham. The IRF-YP targets students and young professionals working towards their Masters or PhD. degrees, students who want to contribute to, and be part of the IRF. The IRF-YP Programme is being led by the dynamic threesome of Ana Maria de la Parra, Melinda Matyas, and Yahia Hadj Houb.
  • Preparations for the IRF, CHTS, and TPRI 2015 China congress are proceeding apace. The call for papers was issued and the program committee is currently in the process of reviewing and selecting abstracts for presentation during the conference.
  • The 9th IRF Regional Conference on Road Safety Initiatives: Status and Way Forward will be organised in New Delhi, India on 5-6 October, 2015. This conference will provide a forum for State and central governments, government agencies and ministries, consultants, academics, and OEMs to come together to discuss the way forward for reaching the goals set out by the Decade of Action 2020.
  • The Senior Road Executives Programme run jointly by the University of Birmingham and IRF started on 22 June, 2015.
  • The partnership with the University of Birmingham has been deepened and expanded to include new courses on road safety, road economics, and rural roads development. These courses will be delivered together with iRAP, HDM Global, and Intech Associates, respectively. The dates for these courses are – HDM4 Course in Road Management will be offered on 7-11 September; Rural Roads for Development, 14-18 September; and iRAP Course on Road Safety, 21-25 September.
  • IRF was again at the forefront of the discussions for improving the statistics for the road sector; Dr. Cristian Gonzalez (Director, Statistics and Data) attended the 63rd Plenary Session of the Conference of European Statisticians in Geneva.

Finally, Ms. Susanna Zammataro, Executive Director of IRF, will be proceeding on maternity leave and we would like to wish her all the best for the coming months. We look forward to welcoming her back towards the end of 2015.

IRF, TPRI, and CHTS will jointly host a Congress in Chongqing, China, on 20-22 September 2015

The International Road Federation (IRF Geneva), the Transport Planning and Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport of China (TPRI), and China Highway and Transportation Society (CHTS) will be hosting a major conference in the beautiful city of Chongqing, China on 20-22 September 2015.



IRF launches the Young Professionals Programme

The International Road Federation (IRF) Geneva launched the IRF Young Professionals Programme (IRF-YPP) as a vehicle for involving students and young professionals in the IRF’s activities and events. The IRF- YPP is a platform for the next generation of leaders and specialists in the road and mobility sectors to propose initiatives, share ideas and be engaged in the overall activities of IRF. The programme was launched in Birmingham, during the Senior Road Executives Course.



IRF’s collaboration with the University of Birmingham on professional development

The Senior Road Executives Programme (SRE) run yearly by the University of Birmingham in association with the International Road Federation (IRF) has kicked off on June 22nd welcoming road executives from all over the world. More training will follow in September in the areas of Road Safety, Road Economics, and Rural Roads for Development.



IRF attends the 63rd Plenary Conference of European Statisticians (CES) – UNECE

The 63rd Plenary Conference of European Statisticians (CES) was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission of Europe UNECE at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on 15-17 June 2015. IRF was represented by Dr. Cristian Gonzalez, Director of Statistics and Data.



9th Edition of the IRF India Regional Conference

The 9th IRF Regional Conference on “Road Safety Initiatives: Status and Way Forward to be held in New Delhi, India on 5-6 October 2015 aims to take stock of the situation in States across the country and to build up a realistic agenda for further actions required to achieve the goals of the “UN Decade of Action”.
