Successful 7th Africa Transportation Technology Transfer Conference

IRF was among the key supporters of the 7th Africa Transportation Technology Transfer Conference held in Zimbabwe from 11th to 15th May 2015. The Conference Theme was “Mobilising Resources for Transport Infrastructural Development and Maintenance for Poverty Alleviation in Africa.”

UNRSC meets in Geneva to discuss preparation for the November Ministerial Meeting

IRF continues its work as Chair of the Pillar 2 “Safer Roads & Mobility” within the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC). The latter met in Geneva on 27 March to advance preparation of the Ministerial Meeting which will be hosted by Brazil next November.

IRF & RA Conference calls upon world leaders to make road safety a reality

Coinciding with the UN Global Road Safety Week, IRF and Roads Australia organized their first joint conference “IRF/RA Regional Conference for Asia and Australasia” on May 4-6 2015 in Sydney. Road safety was a key theme of the Conference, alongside innovation and value-for-money procurement and delivery of infrastructure.

The IRF Road Safety Challenge brings Road Safety High in the Political Agenda for Africa and leads to the establishment of an IRF Africa Chapter

Early March, the IRF organized a premiere event in Africa, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The “IRF Road Safety Challenge for Africa: Accomplishing Targets of Road Safety in Accordance with Decade of Action Plan” gathered more than ten Ministerial delegations from the region demonstrating their support and the urge to boost Road Safety efforts in the region.

IRF General Assembly and IRF Board of Directors meet in Sydney, Australia

The 2015 General Assembly meeting took place in the margins of the IRF/RA Regional Conference for Asia and Australasia, on 3rd May. The meeting was the opportunity to review activities carried out and plan for the year to come. The IRF Board of Directors met also back to back with the GA to discuss strategic plans.

Collisions with animals on the road: searching for examples of prevention solutions

In the framework of our activities, we are actively looking into how countries deal with the prevention of collisions with animals on the road. Our main focus is on camels but we are also grateful and interested in receiving material about avoidance systems or other solutions for different types of animal.

Road markings: searching for examples of GPP criteria

In the framework of our activities on the development of Green Public Procurement (GPP) criteria for the EU region, we are looking for examples of environmental criteria used in procurement processes for road markings. Examples of tenders or criteria (from any part of the world) and related verification procedure would be very helpful to assist in the EU GPP criteria development process.

President of FIA guest of IRF Geneva Board Meeting in Chengdu

The IRF Geneva Board of Directors met in Chengdu, China in the margins of the Michelin Challenge Bibendum. The meeting was an occasion to tighten up relations with IRF Chinese members and to welcome the President of FIA for an exchange of views on action needed to boost international effort on Road Safety.

Green and healthy urban mobility: the role of urban and spatial planning

Hosted by the WHO in Geneva, the 2014 Symposium of the Pan-European Programme on Transport, Health and Environment (THE PEP) focused on urban mobility. IRF was present and shared the conclusions of the debate held in Chengdu, China.

The IRF ITS Policy Committee is committed to enhancing policy frameworks that support and accommodate a swift rollout of ITS solutions. The Policy Committee is currently looking into indicators to measure and compare these enabling policy frameworks. IRF was present with a side event “Building Happy Cities – Meeting the Challenge of Urban Mobility” organized jointly with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
